Pan - Swainson's Hawk
(Buteo swainsoni)

“Pan” is a male Swainson’s Hawk that was found on the ground as a parent-reject/failure-to-thrive fledgling in Spring 2024. As he grew we also saw that he has a distinct right wing droop that impacts his ability to fly well. Swainson’s Hawks fly one of the longest migration routes in the Americas. Most adult birds travel to Argentina for the winter – a trip that would be impossible for Pan with his wing issues. Since Pan’s wing droop made him ineligible for release back to the wild, he has joined our Animal Ambassador Education Team!
