Long-eared Owl

Long-eared Owl 130217_236

On Sunday, Pat Speers responded to a call on an injured Long-earred Owl near Tulelake.  His wing had a dry, compound fracture, so release was not going to be possible.  We opted for amputation and adding him to our educational Animal Ambassadors, but unfortunately, despite the best medical care around, he did not survive the surgery.  Sure was a cute little guy!  Thank you to Thomas Chamberlin for not only reporting him to us, but to driving from Tulelake to Klamath Falls to find our number and contact us, then, driving all the way back to Tulelake to help Pat find him!  We don’t always have success, but we’ll always keep trying!  Here’s the link to the finder’s blog – great photos and stories!  http://chamimage.wordpress.com/2013/02/18/klamath-day-4-little-wing/

Great “Family Reunion” for Red-tailed Hawk from Macdoel, CA

GREAT RELEASE TODAY of a Red-tailed Hawk from Macdoel, CA. We picked her up on the 21st of January on Red Rock Road. She had some soft tissue damage to one wing and couldn’t fly. After 12 days of “R&R” she was ready to go! With a little help from Volunteer Sam, she took off like a champ! After this footage, she was joined by another Red-tail, then a third. Sorry, no pics as it was too far away for our little camera, but after reviewing the look of the birds and their actions, I’m almost certain it was her mate and first-year offspring that came to join her! Thanks Sam, for your help!  Check out the video at:
