Daisy Mae - Skunk
(Mephitis mephitis)

Daisy Mae is one of our few mammalian Animal Ambassadors. Daisy was discovered as an orphan in 2014 by some very well-meaning people who took her in & tried to raise her themselves. Unfortunately, by the time Badger Run was called to help the little skunk had already imprinted on her human caretakers meaning she saw them as her “parents”. As a result, Daisy will always have no fear of humans & look to them to feed her. You can imagine that would be a very bad scenario if she were ever released into the wild. Picture being approached by a bold skunk who was begging for food. Daisy would likely end up being killed by someone thinking she was attacking them. Skunks are omnivores (they eat everything), but require very diverse diets ranging across about 50 different foods. They are also prone to packing on the pounds in captivity. So Daisy’s diet is very closely watched. We did have her descented so she cannot spray, but she does retain just a little of her “skunky” smell.
